Kingsburg Vet Clinic
It’s no surprise the staff at the Kingsburg Vet Clinic have dubbed the building the “modern barn.” The surrounding barns and industrial buildings were the very inspiration for this new 5,500 square foot Veterinary Clinic. The concept seemed to make perfect sense given the surrounding agricultural community and the building’s function. It is, after all, a temporary home for animals.
Traditional buildings like barns are straightforward in their construction. We seized the opportunity to create tall, light-filled interior spaces. The barn form runs down the center of the building. The front third serves as a waiting area, and the back two thirds contain the treatment area and dog runs. We organized the offices, exam rooms, and other supporting functions along each side.
Our goal was to make the building feel inviting. We added contemporary wood and steel trellises to shade the entry and exit court. Beneath both, we placed benches, integrated into the building design. We also extended the modern barn roof forward, beyond the front facade, creating an outdoor space. Here, owners can take a moment outside with their pets before or after a visit.
We selected building finishes including wood siding, metal roofing, recycled wood, and concrete. We chose durable materials, intended to age well.
The clinic owners encouraged us to enhance their clients’ experience. We created a coffee bar, kid’s lounge, and TV area at their request. The front “lawn” also serves as a great place for animals to “stretch their legs.” We made a building for humans and animals alike.
Beyond the Modern Barn: Another Studio G+S Animal Care Clinic
- We also designed Armstrong Pet Hospital, a 2,500 square foot facility, in Clovis, CA. The building shell was already existing, but empty. We, therefore, crafted our design to efficiently fit our client’s program into the space. This space has recently been occupied by Armstrong Urgent Care. We have designed an entire new building for Armstrong Pet Hospital. Project details coming soon.
