San Francisco Loft

We enjoyed working on this San Francisco loft renovation.  The space is one of the few remaining wood framed warehouse structures in San Francisco.  The clients wanted a clean, modern interior to contrast with the industrial character of the raw space. Our aim was to attain a level of privacy while also maintaining an open feeling. We were able to achieve this by elevating the bedroom and bathroom 3 feet above the public living spaces. We then placed the kitchen cabinetry cleanly against this raised element. Because the space only has windows on one wall, we managed to bring light into a previously dark bathroom space by adding a glass shower enclosure.  We also used bamboo as both flooring material and as a finished wall surface enclosing the bedroom and bathroom volumes. This gives the design a sculptural effect which contrasts with the orthogonal geometry of the warehouse structure.

San Francisco Loft Renovation – Revisited
Eight years after completing this loft remodel, we received a call from it’s new owners.  We now had the opportunity to complete the original design with the fabrication of a library wall cabinet. The new clients needed more storage and display for their glassware.  They were looking for a piece that was both beautiful and functional, but also stood apart from the original remodel.
