Woodland Hills Remodel

While not our most challenging renovation, this is a very special project. We are excited to share our first completed work in the Los Angeles Area. Our expertise designing, permitting, and finding professional builders led to great results and a very happy client.

This 1950s era cottage-ranch style home still had the original kitchen. The space was closed off from the dining room, and the dining room had only a small opening to the living room.

Our goal was to connect these rooms visually and spatially.

The owner gave us four tasks: make sure there is enough counter space; make sure everything is within easy reach;  make the connection between the dining room and kitchen open and practical for entertaining; and keep the laundry in the kitchen.

The galley style kitchen provides ample counter space. Because our client is aging, we chose to limit the number of  upper cabinets needed on a daily basis – there are instead a number of drawers which are easy to access while standing.

The washer and dryer are hidden in deep base cabinets adjacent to the dining room. The deep countertop, above them, is perfect for staging dinner buffets. A large glass display cabinet completes this multi-functional area.

Both the dining room and living room open onto the rear yard. Integrating indoor and outdoor spaces is always an important part of our design approach. Stay tuned for pictures of the upcoming landscape design.
